What Do They Have that We Don't Have?

They, meaning the suffering church. The persecuted church. The church in pain. We, meaning the western church. The comfortable church. The victorious church.
Are they assuredly different from us, or is it only that there is a government in place that hates Jesus more than ours does? Or does it mean that we don't speak up and speak out sufficient for Jesus? Do we speak the whole truth about Christ or are we afraid of political correctness?

Consider the relatively recent stories of the following brothers and sisters (these are current stories.) maybe in the reading, God will convict us of work we are not doing, or at least make us grateful to belong to such a spectacular, family of people.

News From Laos

In China, a pastor serves a 3-year prison sentence in a labor camp. His wife has just been released, and now fearfully cares for their son. The pastor's church has been raided during a worship service.

In Pakistan, two evangelists working with Muslim converts are attacked by the Taliban. One is shot and killed instantly. Threats to the other. Two Muslims wounded, one escapes.

In India a law has been passed in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Under it, anyone forcibly converting man can be imprisoned up to two years. In this state of six million, only eight thousand are Christian. Using this law, Hindus beat three Christian brothers, giving them internal injuries.

In Laos, 12 pastors are arrested after meetings. One of them is being denied visitors.

And so on and on the cross of Christ is carried . How we appreciate those who take upon them the very character of Christ. May God give us grace to die with them and with Him.

Pros

Great house Dogs: Your Lab will love your whole house and they are great companions for responsible children. Many breeds can turn out to be a one-person dog which makes it miserable for the rest of the family.

News From Laos

Good Natured and They Love People: They are very easygoing, friendly and have a good temperament. This breed is also accepting to strangers. The only down side to this is that he won't bark if you have an intruder. Instead of pinning him in a corner, your Lab might show him where the cookie jar is.

Labs are "Dog" Friendly: If you want your Lab for a hunting dog, it is principal that they like other dogs since you can be sure there will be other dogs out hunting with you. Labs are not aggressive.

They House Train Easily: Obviously dogs don't train themselves, but Labs are exceptionally bright and they all the time want to please their owner which makes training quick and easy.

Athletic: If you are a jogger or hiker, this dog is the exquisite choice. They love this type of rehearsal or any kind of sport you do. They all the time want to be exercising, so doing it with you will make them happy.

All-Around Hunting Dog: This dog will retrieve on land or water. If you are a hunter and you're seeing for that exquisite dog to retrieve your ducks, pheasants, geese, etc., choose a Lab. This breed loves any kind of water activity, which is also great for the kids when you go to the lake for fun.

Cons

Labs examine Attention: Labs were bred to work whether it's fetching a toy, getting you your newspaper or chasing birds in the wild. They need your attention! An bright dog will come to be destructive if you don't stimulate him mentally. They need to see new places, learn new skills, see new things and smell fresh scents.

Destructiveness: I propose you find the time to give your new Lab attentiveness as described above because if these needs are not met, he will be very destructive. He'll chew on everything, shred your furniture, pillows and bedding, dig huge holes in your back yard, jump the fence and bark as much as possible. This is how they express themselves. You need to have the time to give him attention.

Costly health Problems: Many older Labs can get persisting ailments that are very high-priced to treat. If he gets arthritis, you can spend up to - per day. If he gets allergies, their food can cost as much as -0 per month. They have also been known to have hip problems due to their inordinate exercising and high energy, which are very high-priced when surgical operation is needed.

They Shed A Lot of Hair: The Lab's coat if very thick because it protects them from the elements while hunting and diving into cold lakes. This means that his coat sheds constantly. You will be vacuuming daily.

Odor: Dogs produce oil in their coats, but Labs were industrialized for water activities and their heavy coats produce more oil. This is a distinctive smell especially when he has been out exercising or has been in water. If you find it offensive, you will need to bath your dog often. (please be particular not to dry out his skin)

Your Lab Needs A Job: This may sound silly to you, but these dogs were bred to achieve definite working functions. They need that stimulation of thinking and bodily activity. You will need to commit a lot of time and vigor to this breed so make sure your whole house understands this before you go out and buy a Lab.

Bangkok street Children

Life under globalization's towering shadow is unmistakably not an easy one for many of Bangkok's less well off residents, and this is no great graphic than in the lives of the many street children of Bangkok. Forced to work often not just to feed themselves, but also their families as well, these children can be seen hanging around at all of Bangkok's major nightspots, from Sukhumwit road to Khao San road, Patpong to Ratchada. Selling whatever from flowers and pens to candies and toys, these kids are faced with a daily struggle for survival yet they have no other choice.

All of these children come from poor families, whether broken homes or homes where sick parents are unable to work. With Thai community contribution exiguous in the way of state welfare, families and children forced into such poverty have exiguous option but to send the kids out on the streets of Bangkok to work.

News From Laos

One the face of it though, some of these children seem whatever but miserable. They look happy, smiling and laughing with foreigners as they try to peddle whatever it is they are selling. They often speak very good English and are happy to challenge you to a bet in order to get you to buy something from them.

Many foreign visitors are taken in by these kids, and end up giving them whatever they ask for whatever it is they are selling, but what most of them don't comprehend is that often enough, the child won't get to keep a single cent.

While some of the street kids are locals of Bangkok, many of these children are normally refugees from Burma, Cambodia or Laos, sold to local mafia, and forced out to work to pay back their debt. They struggle to sell their quota each day, and often have to work 12 hour days or longer with exiguous food or rest, until their 'owners' are satisfied with their earnings for that day. Then, they will go back 'home' to a tiny hovel that is shared with some other kids, eat a small meal before setting out to work the next day.

Please bear this in mind when you visit Bangkok. Giving them money is a difficult call to make, as some of them unmistakably do need the money to help their families, but for many they are simply money production tools of local criminals. If you're unsure but you still want to help, one thing you can do safely is to buy the child something to eat, rather than give them money. This way you can be sure that the child is surely receiving something worthwhile.

How Swift Can An Unemployed American Find A Job?

After a ten month investigation, federal officials raided six meatpacking plants that were hiring illegal immigrants, some with stolen identities of U.S. Citizens.

The raids at the plants operated by Swift & Company, resulted in the apprehension of almost 1,300 illegal immigrants. The Immigration and practice enforcement (Ice) raid netted 1,217 persons that were being detained on immigration charges and an additional one 65 on identity theft charges. Some of these persons were wanted on excellent existing criminal warrants for crimes previously committed. Most of the identity theft involved the use of legitimate group safety numbers assigned to U.S. Citizens. The arrested workers were from, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Peru, Laos, Sudan, Ethiopia and other countries according to Ice.

News From Laos

Swift & Co. Was not charged. Why not, you ask? They claimed that they had no idea that they had employees on the payroll using the same group safety numbers as an American laborer in other cities. The company had participated in a government schedule known as "Basic Pilot" since 1997 to ascertain through a federal database the legitimacy of the Ss numbers that were presented by the prospective employee. That is probably why officials of Swift & Co. Were not charged. However, the database only tells the inquirer that the numbers are legitimate. It does not tell them that the applicant is presently working in an additional one city.

When I was in business, I was required, as every manager is, to file quarterly 941 tax forms. These forms contain the names and Ss numbers of all employees on the payroll and the manager identification amount of the company. Listed on the form are all the payments made while the last quarter for monies collected for, withholding taxes, Ss contributions, Medicare contributions and any other payments the manager is required to hold and deposit with the Internal income Service. So don't try to tell me that if I have an laborer in Colorado that is using the Ss amount of a laborer in Detroit and paying Ss contributions from two separate employers while the same working period their computers would not pick that up. I know, it is easy to say that the person probably has a part time job after his quarterly one. However, it is a hell of a commute from Detroit, Michigan to Greeley, Colorado.

It is amazing how Aol can tell me to pick an additional one password or screen-name because one of their millions of subscribers already has the one I want. However, the government cannot tell an manager that person in an additional one city is already paying taxes under that Ss number.

The real demand is whose accounts were the Ss payments being credited to, the laborer in Michigan or Colorado? Secondly, if there was an overpayment who received the refund? That sass is simple. If you do not know you overpaid, you never ask for a refund so Irs does not send one. Therefore, the money paid as Ss contributions by the illegal laborer stays in the fund. The only beneficiaries are the Ss fund and the laborer who retires and collects their benefits which may now be larger because more was paid in. The problem is, no one is request to verify the address that belongs to the Ss list in question.

So what is the downfall of the Ice raids? An Abc news reporter in Denver is quoted as saying," Quite honestly, you're finding at two weeks before Christmas, and there is buying power leaving the economy." If that reporter easily thinks that the discount in Christmas shopping spending by the 261 employees Detained in Colorado, that are now without a job is going to work on the economy of Colorado there is a bridge in New York City I would like to sell that reporter.

If they were not working there, taking jobs away from Americans there would be 261 Americans spending at the malls.

Judy Griego, director of Weld County group Services is quoted in the Greeley Tribune as saying, "Our wish would have been they (Ice) should have let us know beforehand. We have kind of collapsed around this situation internally. Frankly, we don't know how many kids are involved in this now. It's kind of guesswork." Why is she blaming Ice for not informing her? Swift & Co. Knew months before the raid was coming. They even went to court to try to stop it. Why didn't Swift & Co. Forewarn group services? I believe they have a much greater enforcement and involvement in the society than Ice.

I can hear all the politicians on both sides of the aisle in outrage. These people were doing jobs that Americans will not do we need them. Really! Prior to the Hart/Celler Act of 1965 there was negative emigration not immigration. Actually, from 1921 until 1965 immigration was close to zero. Think about this, our lettuce was picked, our houses were cleaned, our children were cared for and our lawns were mowed. Whom do you think did all that work?

The Hart/Cellar bill, which opened up our borders to a flood of immigration, may be the imagine for the problems we see today. while the hearings of the senate immigration subcommittee, Chairman Edward (Ted) Kennedy (D-Ma) reassured his colleagues and the nation with the following statement: "This bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs."

Here is the punch line to all this. The opportunity line in the Rocky Mountain News of December 15, 2006 said, "The line of applicants hoping to fill jobs vacated by undocumented workers taken away by immigration agents at the Swift & Co. Meat- processing plant earlier this week was out the door on Thursday." Did you observation the word "Undocumented?" They were documented, some just had other peoples documents. Political Correctness triumphs again.

A full-page ad in Wednesday's Greely Tribune states that the company is contribution a ,500 signing bonus for new employees. It said all shifts and all taste levels are needed. It looks like it was a Merry Christmas for some people in Greeley.

How fast can some unemployed Americans find a job? Well if you live in Greeley, Colorado or any of the other five cities that were raided it seems it will happen pretty "Swift."

And, that is my opinion.

For Affordable Winter Sun and primary Vitamin D - Visit the Canary Islands!

Brand new research from the Journal of the American Heart association reveals that vitamin D is essential in offering us security against all sorts of serious illnesses and conditions such as strokes and heart failure, and that vitamin D also plays a vital role in supporting bone strength.

The findings of the research, which took five years to complete, have been published along with evidence that only nearby 10% of us ever has high adequate levels of vitamin D in our bodies because we lack exposure to the one source guaranteed to top us up, namely the sun.

News From Laos

And how well timed is the publication of these findings? After all, in January we are more likely to be suffering from winter blues and post-Christmas depression than basking in sunshine and soaking up our daily dosage of essential vitamin D...which is where the topic of winter sun holidays actually comes in!

In a up-to-date article in the Guardian newspaper, a reporter cites Abta, (the association of British travel Agents), as saying that because summer 2007 in the Uk was such a washout, the 2007/08 winter sun season is going to be busier than ever with article numbers of Brits having booked to go abroad in quest of the warm rays of the sun.

If you're one of the estimated 3.5 million Britons heading off in quest of winter sunshine this season, which are the destinations that you should be focused on for guaranteed vitamin D levels, exquisite affordability, ease of accessibility and a great holiday to boot?

Well, according to the Telegraph, Abta and the Times newspaper, the number one location you should be considering in 2008 is the Canary Islands.

The Canary Islands are an African archipelago that make up part of the Kingdom of Spain. They are a dramatically gorgeous group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean that enjoy year round temperate conditions development them ideal for winter sun, and also summer sunshine holidays.

Accessible from the Uk in nearby 4.5 hours and serviced year round by a host of cheap flight operators such as Jet2fly which has flights currently beginning from just Gbp 49.99, the Canary Islands are a favourite with sun seekers and a favourite with travel correspondents from foremost British newspapers this season it seems.

Interestingly enough, 2007 was a poor year for the Canary Islands - both in terms of tourism arrivals and property prices. Tourism arrivals declined to 7 million between January and October 2007 with predictions at the start of the year estimating arrivals during this period at nearby 7.25 million. And median property prices on the likes of Fuertaventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote also declined in 2007.

According to Martin Dell, the managing director of award winning Spanish property portal Kyero.com, the Canary Islands now offer so much more in the way of value for money for would-be Spanish home seekers. For example, according to Mr. Dell: "Fuerteventura recorded an median price drop of 9.2% in 2007, Gran Canaria saw a drop of 4.8% in median prices throughout the year and even in Tenerife where there was actually a property price increase of 7.5%, median property prices still remain 15% below the national median in Spain."

These facts and the news about the tourism decline in 2007 caused something of a knee jerk reaction or possibly an awakening in Spain, and a concerted drive has been made to once again promote the attraction of the Canary Islands which is why so many British journalists are now once again revisiting the delights of the archipelago and passing on their distinct findings to their readership.

The islands secure roughly a third of their entire Gdp from the tourism commerce and a supplementary 20% from construction - so you can see how essential their travel and property markets are. Good news for the buyer going in to 2008 then - because the government and secret sector are both behind a essential push to once again promote the delights of the islands.

What this means for the likes of you and me is that if we're looking for cut price holidays and reduced price Spanish property in 2008, along with our winter sunshine and our vitamin D fixes, the Canary Islands are the destination of choice. And offering a one stop shop for tourism and long term rental property as well as property for sale in the Canary Islands is the aforementioned kyero.com...making it much easier for you to find a vacation home for a property inspection trip and a wholesome dose of vitamin D, locate properties you might like to buy and arrange for a longer term rental home for you to move into whilst you wait for the completion of your property buy to go through!

In terms of which Canary Island to pick from, well, you can agree from Tenerife, Fuertaventura, Gran Canaria, La Gomera or Lanzarote for example - each island is favorite and each is also distinctly different from the next and offers an entirely different travel experience.

For example - Tenerife is the most well known and also the largest of the islands. It has two airports and most visitors head for the south of Tenerife as it has the best atmosphere and is very well developed with an exquisite array of amenities and facilities to keep the entire house happy on holiday. This island is very favorite with holiday home buyers too, and as prices are so far below the national median you can snap up your own Spanish property trade for the median price of Eur 219,500.

If you prefer a slightly quieter destination then how about Lanzarote; home to César Manrique and a great deal of the artist's stunningly dramatic artwork and home to property prices that have dropped to nearby an median of Eur 312,000. Or maybe, if you prefer outdoor sports such as surfing, diving, big game fishing or 4x4 safaris, you might prefer Fuertaventura? The tourism and property markets in Fuertaventura are in their infancy relatively speaking when you compare the island with others in the archipelago. As a result, prices remain affordable with the cost of an median home being Eur 250,000.

For nature lovers and those who holiday in quest of tranquility, you might be recommended to try La Gomera, and if you're interested in discovering a minuscule continent, try Gran Canaria - home to more scenery and atmosphere varieties than all the other islands put together and home to very reasonable real estate prices of nearby Eur 198,000 - 1% below the national average.

As you can see, the Canary Islands offer more than mere winter sun appeal and essential vitamin D doses - they offer a diversity of geography and climate, a short haul, affordable and accessible year round sunshine destination, and a location where property prices have declined in up-to-date months and now offer would-be buyers great value for money. 2008 is likely to be a very good year for the Canary Islands!

For Affordable Winter Sun and primary Vitamin D - Visit the Canary Islands!

a blistering speed. Ferrari fast. So fast that by the time
you purchase your new laptop, it's probably already
obsolete or out of date. A sobering notion considering
the hefty prices you have to pay for a high-end laptop.

But laptop technology is changing so fast new innovations
are arrival on stream as you read this article. There is a
whole new generation of notebook technology every two years
or less. Therefore, unless you buy or upgrade your laptop
each year you're falling behind what these sleek dinky
powerhouses can now deliver.

News From Laos

And unless you're already in Geek Heaven, keeping track
of all these new technologies and innovations can be
quite a chore. Figuring out the right Graphics chipset
that works best with the right Cpu and the best Data buses
is a major feat. And now that all is being
Doubled -- dual core, dual graphics -- it's entering
the realm where Einstein would be amused, even on a
bad hair day!

What's the ordinary laptop buyer to do?

What you for real have to keep in mind are the outcomes
of all this new technology. Basically, these new
technologies have made laptops smaller, faster and more
powerful. With every new correction the laptop is windup
the gap in the middle of its main rival -- the desktop computer.

Notebook computers are now out-selling desktops for
the first time in history. Laptops are replacing the
old desktop computer, whose days may just be numbered.
It won't be long before laptops are also out-performing
them as well.

Some major computer makers are taking note of this
trend towards more powerful, smaller computers.
Even the desktop computer is morphing! Just look at
the sleek originate of the new Apple iMac G5, gone is the
bulky tower, in its place is a well designed desktop
computer that's roughly a laptop!

For the ordinary computer user keeping abreast of
all these new technologies and inventions can be a
major chore if you're considering buying a laptop
in the next dinky while. As you arrival the smiling
salesperson in your beloved tech store, here's a
few bits of new notebook technology you might want
to have in your rights so you won't look like a
complete neophyte. Hey, where technology is concerned,
we have all been there, done that.

In order for you to tech-proof your next laptop
purchase, here's a quick run down of some recent
Notebook Developments:

Sonoma Chipset

The new Sonoma Platform, Intel's next-generation Centrino
Chipset is already on the market. Members of the Sonoma
club are growing daily - Sony, Ibm/Lenovo, BenQ, Dell,
Samsung, Acer, and Toshiba... an additional one 80 or 90
'Sonoma-endowed' products will be released very shortly.

No doubt, it will come to be the Platform approved for many
high-end notebooks. Actually, it won't make or mean that
much unlikeness to the ordinary Joe/Jane who just want a
notebook or laptop for web surfing, word processing and
e-mail. Notebooks with the Sonoma Platform will be just
a dinky bit faster and have a dinky best battery life.

But for mobile Professionals and Notebook Fanatics (they
do exist)... There's a lot of good things delivered or
capable of being delivered with this new Centrino Chipset.
First, wireless connections will be easier with the integrated
tri-mode 802.11a/b/g, already dubbed by some as the
'wireless trinity'! This will make it easier to stay
connected no matter where you are.

Improved execution will be experienced because the
new Pentium M's have a 533Mhz frontside bus, supported
with up to 2Gb of Ddr2 Dram, Serial Ata Hard Drive, and
Pci Express, plus improved integrated graphics, along with
Intel's Hi-Def Audio. All are potential with the Sonoma
Platform.

Pci Express

Pci(Peripheral Component Interconnect) Express is a new
standard for expansion cards that comes in distinct
versions. Presently, we have the x16 and x1 lanes, which
will be followed by x4 and x8 versions. It offers increased
bandwidth for example, x1 lane offers 500Mb/sec instead of
just 133Mb/sec for Pci.

All computers, along with laptops have distinct buses,
(collection of wires) that transmit data from one component
to another.

Of course, in an ideal world, all the data in your computer
should move thru just one Bus - however, most experts agree
it's not likely to happen unless we start over and build a
computer ideas from scratch. For now we have to rely on
different internal buses to move the data around, the
Pci Express is a great correction and will make your
laptop faster.

Graphics Card

These are all the time improving. A Graphics Card handles the
graphics or visuals on your notebook. If 3D graphics and
games is a pastime, you will want to buy the highest
quality system. Some of the higher end products are:
Ati Mobility Radeon 9800, X800, and FireGl V3200 or
Intel's Graphics Media Accelerator 900.

If you can, go with a Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 graphics
card or for the real game diehards - wait for the debut
of Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 that features Nvidia's TurboCache
technology.

Gamers will be aware of Nvidia Sli technology, Ati's
CrossFire and Hyperthreading. All new stuff that's
bringing the gaming contact up to a higher level of
perfection that would even be worthy of a Spielberg or
a Lucas Production. Not really, but it's getting there.

64 Bit Laptops

Most systems today run on the 32 Bit System. Keep in mind,
the major unlikeness in the middle of a 32-bit and a 64-bit ideas
is the estimate of memory that they support. Around 4 Gb for
32-bit and 8 Gb and up for the 64-bit. Right now -- Intel,
Apple, and Amd all offer 64-bit systems.

Do you need all this memory? No, for the median laptop
user it amounts to overkill. However, if you're curious
in gaming, desktop publishing, or the graphic arts you will
benefit from 64-bit technology.

Dual Core Notebooks

Two is best than one!

Dual core laptops are now on the market. The gaming business
is the beginning point for many of these developed systems.
For example, the British Laptop maker Rockdirect now produces
Xtreme 64, a gaming laptop with Amd's new dual core Athlon 64
X2 processor. This same laptop also sports the Ati Mobility
Radeon X800 Xt graphics card that features 16 pixel pipelines,
an business first for notebooks.

The major producers of dual-core chips are Intel and Amd.
The Intel dual-core processor has hyperthreading (Ht), the
two cores are divided into four virtual Cpu units. Is all this
needed? Again, if you're into heavy graphics or gaming, it's
something you should think and eye further.

Built-in Cellular Modem

Most high-end laptops now come with an integrated
tri-mode 802.11a/b/g for wireless Wi-Fi connections.

Some recent models, like the Sony's New Ultra-Portable
Vaio Vgn-T350P, are raising the bar; it has the world's
first 'Built-in Cellular Modem'. You can use your cell phone
to connect to the Internet. This may be a great benefit
since looking a 'Hot Spot' in some parts of the world can
still be difficult.

The Avant-Garde: LumiLed Display

Be on the look-out for Led monitors in the near future.
The brightness, colors and backlighting technology in Led
monitors will be quite distinct from Lcd displays.

The Forerunner in this field is Nec's SpectraView LumiLed,
and will offer a much best image and color.
Keep your eyes peeled.

On the Horizon:

19 or 20 Inch Laptop Screens

There is a rumor, only a rumor, that Dell is arrival out
with a 19-inch laptop in early 2006. There is also buzz
that Lg-Philips has a 20-inch Lcd panel which could for real
be used by laptop makers if they want to eye this
market area. Andre the giant will be pleased!

Conclusion

Of course, there are many more laptop innovations in
the pipeline but they're beyond the scope of this article.
Just keep all these new technological notebook changes in
mind when you're checking out your next laptop. Maybe,
just maybe, most of these won't already have been substituted
by something new by the time you buy your next laptop.
But don't bet your Google Stocks on it!

Politics Is Wrong for career Starter

Politics, theoretically and practically, is probably the word's most biased career. Politician, therefore, needs to not care about anything, but power and meticulously bias toward his/her political party. That's why I strongly advise whatever not to enter politics as occupation start-up.

As a career-starter, you need to be enthralling about everything; occasion your eyes and ears to learn all things in a neutral way, allocating time to involve in any action of your workplace and community as a whole, reasoning and working as a researcher (neutrally learning everything, as well as analyzing), and ultimately you need more time to all the time sharpen your skill(s) by reading and other socializations. Politics is an absolute wall to these self-improving activities.

News From Laos

Business nations like Singapore, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, young graduates might have more choices not to enter politics in occupation start-up, since these nations offer diversified occupation in company and other non-governmental sector. Low-developed and developing countries in Southeast Asia, like Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma and many other countries in Africa, young graduates or youths may agree to accept any job; low-paying or without pay, for caress which might help boosting their future job prospect. I am very regretful that in Cambodia political parties are using youth and young graduates to campaign for their parties, since youth and young graduates have the top potential and top numbers.

To me, reading books in library, browsing internet, participating in group lectures and presentations offered by Ngos, universities, government, company institutions, and other interest groups, are more beneficial than working for any political party as occupation start-up.

This letter hereby wishes to function as an motion to all young graduates and youth in the world not to enter politics as occupation start-up, and to motion to all political parties and governments in the world to place these youth and young graduates out of politics.

Siberia, Russia Part 5 - Khabarovsk and a slight Russian

In this continuing series, we cover my move from San Diego to Chita, Siberia to be a professor at Chita State Technical University. We pick up the story exterior the airport in Khabarovsk, Russia.

Khabarovsk

News From Laos

Khabarovsk is an fabulous city. Museums with works from Picasso, Rembrandt and other masters. A bustling downtown area with cafes, a arresting music scene and architectural triumphs. Then again, maybe not. We were far more interested in seeing a hotel with hot water and never ventured into the city.

Outside of the airport, we were a bit flummoxed by the fact there appeared to be no taxis. We fast learned that approximately any Russian with a car is also a taxi for hire. After 5 minutes of egging each other on, Grae made taxi arrangements and we were off. Apparently taking in out disheveled appearance after 3 days of traveling, our driver suggested the Intourist hotel. We readily agreed.

During communism, Intourist hotels were set up for exclusive use by foreigners. Ours was fairly nice and, importantly, had showers with copious amounts of hot water. You can see a picture at http://www.lodging.ru/hotels/intouristkhab.asp. After having returned to humanity with one of the best showers of my life, it was time to brush up on my Russian skills.

I am a huge fan of ice hockey. While the eighties and nineties, many of the best players were Russians. In interviews, they approximately all the time talked about learning English by watching television. If it worked for them, it would work for me. Not exactly.

As Grae showered, I flipped through the eight ready channels. Sitcoms were a non-starter, but I at last found a news channel. I see the images. I know what the images are. I hear the words being spoken by the reporters. I have really no idea of what words go with what images. Okay, let's back up. What words do they use over and over? Damn, do they have to talk so fast? After 30 minutes, I have learned nothing, nada, zippo. My respect for Russians playing in the Nhl has never been higher.

Might as well sleep on it. Yes, day three of the trip was finally done. My traditional prediction of a 2-day trip was out the window. Still, we were in Russia, so how much longer could it take? Pull out a map and take a look at the country. It is twice the size of the U.S.

Next - When Stairs Attack...

How to Find tour Bargains

If you've ever typed "discount travel" into a Google quest box, you know the frustrations of trying to search a gem among way too many chunks of coal. "Discount travel" and other favorite quest phrases -- "cheap allowance airline travel," "discount trip web site," or "cruise trip discount" -- typically return an infinitely long list of mind-numbing websites that promise exotic trip for pennies on the dollar. And then you look for the details. Underneath a perhaps keen home page, many of those trip sites just don't have much substance. So what is a business agreement shopper to do? Give up, exasperated, after spending hours clicking and searching?

Have faith, business agreement shopper. You can find trip deals out there; you just have to be strategic in your search. Result these tips and maximize your opportunities to trip at a discount:

News From Laos

Subscribe to free newsletters. If you can handle receiving a few extra emails in your box every week, you'll have the opportunity to save a bundle on your trip plans. Hotels, airlines and cruise ships prefer to book up completely, even if that means they have to shave a tiny off the price at the last minute. These trip fellowships often use e-newsletters to let you know when they're ready to offer you a deal. Take a visit to the websites of your favorite airlines, cruise operators and hotel brands and hunt around for an e-newsletter sign-up form. Try a combine of trip agents too, as they sometimes have fire sales on perfect vacations. Just make your selections wisely--it doesn't do you or them any good if you don't read your emails.

Be a frequent buyer. trip fellowships love loyalty. While you're finding around for e-newsletters, check into frequent buyer programs too. Affinity cards are popular; these are the prestige cards that earn you miles or points. Once you have that card, the airline or hotel will be pretty good about letting you know how to use it to earn more miles. If you're super-diligent about paying your bills, start using the prestige card for all of your quarterly expenses. Food, gas, clothes, whatever. Just make sure you pay off the equilibrium every month. It may take awhile to earn those free plane tickets, but it'll be well worth the effort.

Stay packed. When that dream vacation deal arrives in your inbox, you have to be ready to take action. Get yourself organized by creating a list of things you'd have to do before skipping town for the weekend. Frame out who you need to call to check on the dog or pick up your newspaper while you're gone. Know where your suitcase is and keep a stash of travel-sized toiletries handy. You could even make a list of your go-to, jet-setting outfits: something dressy for an evening out, something comfy for walking around town and, of course, your favorite swimsuit.

Plan early. If you aren't the last-minute type, do the opposite: Plan your vacations a year in advance. This is likely to save you money on cruises and airfare in particular. Cruise lines will book more than a year in advance, while airlines normally go out about 11 months. Oh, and if you've saved up adequate frequent flyer miles for free airfare, you have to book that label a year in advance. Airlines normally limit the number of freebies they'll offer on each flight, and they book up fast. If you wait too long, you won't get the flight you want.

Be flexible. When you're researching a specific destination, be flexible about your coming days and the distance of your stay. Experiment with dissimilar dates and times; leaving on a Tuesday instead of a Friday for example might make a huge incompatibility in the cost of your airfare and hotel. Depending on the destination and the number of habitancy in your trip party, a date convert might save you adequate on airfare to cover the cost of staying a few extra days. Along those same lines, be willing to visit your destinations in the off-season: You know, Palm Springs in the summer, Paris in the winter. You'll save money and avoid the crowds.

Be an outlier. You might be planning a vacation around a specific attraction, like Disneyland. If so, reconsider staying in a neighboring city. The hotels in Anaheim, particularly those within walking distance to Disneyland, charge a huge excellent for their location. The same will be true for hotels surrounding approximately any major attraction. Go to Google Maps and get familiar with the communities around Anaheim; if you stay 10 miles away, you'll save adequate to pay for your rental car and then some.

Nigeria Deleted From The Major Drug List

The United States of America has ultimately deleted Nigeria from the list of major drug countries for the first time since 1991. President Barack Obama announced that the reason for removing the country's name from the list was because she no longer met the criteria for the list according to the Us law.

Nigeria was hitherto considered a major transit (though not a producer of opium or other associated drugs) point for narcotic drugs arrival from The Latin America into the United States of America. Placing the country on the major drug list as a matter of fact dented her image for a very long time. The government of this country did all that was humanly inherent to reverse the ugly trend and heighten the image of the country that was already battered by corruption.

News From Laos

However, countries like Afghanistan, The Bahamas, Bolivia, Burma, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru and Venezuela are on the list this year.

The Nigerian government tackled this question with all seriousness it deserved, using a pragmatic approach; to ensure that the country did not only get deleted from the black book of the American government, but also regained her respect in the committee of nations.

How did Nigeria get deleted?

1. Massive anti-drug campaign: The government embarked on a massive anti-drug campaign using both the print and electronic media to ensure that her citizenry knew the consequences of drug peddling and drug use. This helped to reduce the number of citizen finding the illicit trade in drugs as a quick way to prosperity.

2. Punitive measures: The government also enacted laws that made the use of or selling of narcotics a punishable offense. Culprits were prosecuted straight through the due process of law and when found guilty, were sentenced to any years jail term to make the trade unattractive. Besides, properties proved to have been acquired straight through this illicit business were also confiscated by the government.

3. Security measures: The National Drug Law obligation group (Ndlea) had any protection measures in place to detect those smuggling out the drugs straight through our borders. The use of sniff dogs and body scanners were part of the measures put in place to ensure that those carrying narcotics in their luggage or secret in their bodies were as a matter of fact fished out at the airports.

4. Internal measures: The Ndlea was also able to reduce the cultivation of hard drugs like the Cannabis Sativa within the country by going from state to state, destroying the drug farms and burning them up. This helped to minimize the number of youth going into farming on hard drugs. The essence of destroying the Cannabis farms was to send a strong message to the farmers that any kind of psychotropic drugs would not be tolerated in the country.

Now that the name of the country has been deleted from the bad list there is need to combine on our achievements and not to rest on our oars as this could be perilous should we fail to perceive that there is the possibility of the drug barons regrouping to continue the trade if the protection measures are relaxed.

To avert any kind of relapse, there should be allowable monitoring of our national borders to be sure that no hard drug finds its way into our shores anymore. Imported goods (especially the ones arrival from Latin America) should be thoroughly searched at our borders before they are allowed into the country.

There should be alternative businesses for those who have been prosecuted and rehabilitated so they won't think of going back into peddling in narcotics anymore. They should also be given a new reorientation to make them perceive there is pride in getting wealth straight through the legitimate way.

This amelioration should be seen as a major step in the right direction for the Barack Obama's government to gather her popularity especially in Nigeria and Africa in general. The war against trading in narcotics or psychotropic drugs should be seen as a communal one. Therefore, everybody should join in the fight to rid the world of ill-gotten wealth, drug-induced psychoses and violent crimes. The world would be a great place to live in if the war is won in the long run.

Fidel Castro And the Cuban Revolution - 51 Years of Tyranny

1960s A Pro-Soviet Tyranny

1959-1960: Following Fidel Castro's overthrow of the dictatorial Batista administration, a host of people, along with children and women, welcomed the coming of guerrillas, but they turned the Island -- about the size of Tennessee-- into a place of repression. On the other side, Raúl Castro had been hand-picked by his brother, Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, as the second leader of the Cuban Revolution. In the meantime, in the early years of the new regime, up to 3,200 Cubans had been slaughtered by Fidel Castro and his family. On the economic side, Castro nationalized all U.S. Businesses (without compensation). In fact, these events marked the beginning of one the world's worst undemocratic governments. Toward the end of 1960, Washington imposed an embargo on Cuba.

News From Laos

1960-1980: As a consequence of the totalitarian policies, over one million Cubans had fled to America (chiefly Florida), Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Spain and Italy.

1960-1982: Inspired by the People's Republic of China, Albania and other Communist tyrannies, Cuba's undemocratic state had decimated the country's tourism industry.

1960-2007: In one of Fidel Castro's many dictatorial reforms, hemade his sister-in-law, Vilma Espín, President of the Federation of Cuban Women --a key club on Cuba. Espín, Raúl Castro's wife, was leader of the feminist club until her abrupt death on June 18, 2007.However in time, she, a previous Marxist guerrilla, was known as the "First Lady of the Cuban Revolution". Over the decades of the Soviet Empire, she had strong links with radical feminist movements from Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.

1960-2010: World-famous dancer and choreographer Alicia Alonso Martínez became one of the key women, alongside Haydée Santamaria Cuadrado, Vilma Espín Guillois, Celia Sánchez Manduley and Mireya Luis Hernández, in the Cuban Revolution. Since then, she used her fame and prestige to clean up the Island's bad image. By the early 60s, Fidel Castro gave Alonso 0,000 to set up the Cuban National Ballet. From then on, the Ballet Nationalbecame an open door for Cuban sway in the Third World and Europe.

1961: The Island's history took sudden turn in this year as the provisional rule declared the country a Marxist stateand began a close association with the Kremlin -the Ussr was one of the first states to recognize Cuba's tyranny--and their allies, along with the German Democratic Republic (Gdr), North Korea and Czechoslovakia. From then on, Moscow played a key role in the Cuban Revolution. Nonetheless, after Cuba became a pro-Soviet dictatorship, the political association between the States and the Island worsened. On January 3, 1961, the tensions between both governments came to a head as America severed polite ties with the rule of Cuba.

1962: The Republic of Cuba was suspended from the club of American States (Oas), which was founded on April 30 1948 in Bogotá (Colombia), over its dictatorial rule.

1962- 1990: Unlike many Marxist states in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, along with Ethiopia (the world's poorest nation), Guinea, Laos and Cambodia (Asia's poorest country), the Island's human development, from employment and power to education, culture and communal health, was subsidized by the Kremlin (which was replaced by Venezuela since 2000). For example, most of Cuba's young population --chiefly members of the Cuban Communist Party (Pcc)-- attend schools, universities and institutions in Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, Poland and the German Democratic Republic (Gdr). Moreover, a whole of cultural delegations went to Asia, Latin America and Europe. In 1984, the Caribbean team, led by Alicia Alonso, visited five previous Soviet republics (Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan). On the other side, nearby 90% of the troops allocation was financed from the Ussr and other Communist states. These were some of the reasons why Cuba did not have financial problems -different from any Latin societies. During the Cold War, the weighty Soviet aid gave Cuba a political sway in the Third World disproportionate to its size and economy.

1964-1990: Castro's dictatorial rule, headed by its diplomat Isidoro Malmierca (the Cuban ambassador to the United Nations), allowed the Ussr to direct its foreign policy. The Kremlin used Fidel Castro to develop its geopolitical sway in the Third World, chiefly in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.

1967: Soviet Union's Prime clergyman Alexei Kosygin went to Cuba.

1970s Fidel Castro & Mengistu Haile Mariam

1970-1975: The totalitarian Communist state had cooperative ties with Peru's dictator Juan Velasco Alvarado. Over that time, Raúl Castro, the Island's second most fine leader, trip to Lima.

1971-1973: After Salvador Allende's win in the Presidential elections, the Cuban administration had shown a deep interest in cooperation with Chile. Upon the winning the Chilean election, Allende became the world's only freely elected Marxist Head of State. Later on, in 1971, surprisingly, Fidel Castro embarked on a three-week tour of Chile.

1972-1990: The Republic Socialist of Cuba was home to the largest Soviet society outside Europe and the Ussr.

1975-1991: With the help of 50,000 Cuban troops, the African country of Angola, led by José Eduardo dos Santos, moved into the Soviet orbit.

1977: The Cuban dictatorship sent a delegation, led by Sergio del Valle, to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

1978-1989: Under its pro-Soviet policy, Castro's dictatorial rule sent over 20,000 troops to the Republic Marxist of Ethiopia - an African nation with 90% of the population living under the abject poverty-- to hold the dictatorship of Mengistu Haile Mariam, who led Ethiopia to one of the worst genocides in history. Over that time, Cuba's troops carried out repressive measures against the Eritreans and Ethiopians.

1979: With the hold of the Soviet bloc (from Bulgaria to East Germany), as well as anti-American states, Havana - the nation's capital city-- hosted the Non-Aligned Movement (Nam) Summit. Cuba's satrap Fidel Castro was elected President. This international event was part of the Communist dictatorship's strategy to win new allies in the Third World, along with terrorist states.

1980s The pro-Castro Lobby

1980: To heighten dictatorship's image abroad, damaged by human proprietary abuses and pro-Soviet troops projects in sub-Saharan Africa, the undemocratic rule sent a man -a Russian-trained astronaut-- to space. Along with Alberto Juantorena ( 1976 Olympic champion), Alicia Alonso and Alejo Carpentier (author), Cuba's cosmonaut Arnaldo Tamayo was one of the "special ambassadors" of the Cuban tyranny.

1981: On the world stage, the Castro regime established strong links with rogue governments such as Libya, Iran and the Dpr of Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea or North Korea). By contrast, Cuba's ties with many Latin American democracies worsened, along with Colombia, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Peru.

1982-2008: Under the sway of the "pro- Castro lobby" in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural club (Unesco), nine natural and cultural sites on the Island were declared wonders of the world- the Old Havana and its Fortifications (1982), the Trinidad and the Valley de los Ingenios (1988), San Pedro de la Roca Castle (1997), the Desembarco del Granma National Park (1999), the Viñales Valley (1999), the Archaeological scenery of the First Coffee Plantations in the South East of Cuba (2000), the Alejandro de Humbolt National Park (2001), the Urban Historic Centre of Cienfuegos (2005) and the Historic Centre of Camaguey (2008). Curiously Cuba holds more world patrimony sites than Argentina, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya and South Africa.

1984: Due to its political and financial dependency with the rule of the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics (Ussr), the totalitarian Communist state refused to send over 200 Cuban champs and officials to the 23rd Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Ca. Therefore, many champs lost the opportunity to compete in the Games, which included Javier Sotomayor (track & field) and Mireya Luis (volleyball) as well as Olympic gold medal winners Maria Caridad Colón (athletics) and Teófilo Stevenson (boxing).

1985: In its efforts to heighten the country's economy, tourism became one of government's top priorities. Nonetheless, poor international image --among the world's oldest tyrannies, together with the Stalinist state of North Korea-- have caused great harm to the Island's tourism industry.

1986-1992: Although many Socialist governments, from Czechoslovakia and Mongolia to the People's Republic of China recognized to Seoul, the Cuban tyranny continued to reject South Korea's sovereignty.

1988: After a year of speculations, the Cuban contingent did not share in the Summer Games in Seoul, South Korea.

1990s Cuba -- The World's Worst Olympic Country

1991: Upon the ending of the Soviet Empire, the Caribbean Island, with few natural resources, had transformed itself from a middle-income country to one of the poorest countries on the American mainland.

1992: Cuba's exile Eduardo Díaz Betancourt was executed by tyranny, despite worldwide appeals for clemency.

1992: Jorge Esquivel, the most excellent dancer and choreographer in the Cuban Revolution, sought political asylum in Italy. This defection was a serious setback to the Cuban National Ballet. At the 1982 International Ballet Competition in Havana, Esquivel, one of the world's six best dancers, made his choreographer debut. In the 70s and 80s, he was partner of Alicia Alonso.

1993: Despite Cuba annually budgeted over $ 100 million for the promotion of Olympic sport, which represents 3% of the Gross Domestic goods (Gdp) -one of the top in the developing world, sport had a big problem: there were weighty defections. During the 17th Central American and Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico, the Island boasted the infamous contrast of being "one of the world's worst Olympic nations", alongside Burma and Libya, as a host of Olympian athletes and coaches, along with softball players and swimmers, refused to return to their impoverished country.

1993 Against all odds, Alina Fernández Revuelta, Fidel Castro's daughter, fled to Europe.

1994-2010: The Cuban regime lost four foremost allies in sub-Saharan Africa: Angola (resource-rich nation), Benin, Equatorial Guinea (oil-rich country) and Namibia (uranium-rich country).

1995: The Island boasted one of the top suicide rates on the planet.

1995-2010: Unlike the Republic Socialist of Vietnam, the Island, with an cheaper heavily dependent on tourism, has had one of the worst-performing economies in the developing world. The nation's cheaper had long been handicapped by its primitive political system. Since the breakup of the Soviet Empire in the early 1990s, a lot of workers, from nurses to teachers, have been forced by the lack of job opportunities to work in Latin America and Spain. With the irregularity of Haiti, Cuba's citizens are the poorest on the Caribbean region. On the other hand, foremost sporting and thrifty agreements between Havana and Latin America republics have strengthened ties between the Cuban dictatorship and Latin democracies.

1998: In an effort to mollify its critics, the consummate Pontiff John Paul Ii was allowed to visit the Island for the first time.

1999: At the Pan American Games in Winnipeg (Canada), the country's Olympic delegation picked up any medals, but unwelcomed publicity came when Cuba's athlete Javier Sotomayor Sanabria, one of the Island's most respected icons since 1959, lost his Pan American gold medal in the men's high jump after testing definite for a drug. Meanwhile, Fidel Castro did not accept the results.

2000s The Hereditary Dictatorship of the Castros

2000: Castro's regime established close ties with the government of Hugo Chavez, Head of State of Venezuela. Due to his admiration for Fidel Castro, Chavez provided heavy economic aid and became a supplier of oil to Cuba. Meanwhile, Aleksandr Lukashenko, dictator of Belarus, went to Havana.

2003: While Cuba's tyrant Fidel Castro -perhaps inspired by Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Jean-Bedel Bokassa, Idi Amin Dada and other satraps of the Third World-- expressed his desire to become President for life, the State safety Departament's increased performance against the opposition groups as it arrested 75 foremost human proprietary activists, who participated in the scheme Varela. They were named "Prisoners of Conscience" by Amnesty International. In response to the rule of Cuba's human proprietary abuses, European Union (Eu) imposed restrictive measures on Cuba.

2005-2010: In tribute to the "Ladies in White", the European Union bestowed upon them the 2005 Sakharov Prize for Freedom. This award was hailed as a victory for the Island's pro-democratic groups. The pro-democratic club "Ladies in White" became a world seal of the struggle against tyranny and repression. They are one the most signs of hope for the new Cuba. In beginning 2008, they were threatened and attacked by paramilitaries forces.

2008: Because of its poor health, amid many speculations, Fidel Castro stepped down as Head of State and leader of the Cuban Revolution. Subsequently he was replaced by his younger brother Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz, becoming the seventh Marxist leader of a Latin American country since 1960, after Fidel Castro (1960-2008), Allende (Chile, 1971-1973), Forbes Burnham (Guyana,1970-1980), Michael Manley (Jamaica, 1972-1980), Maurice Bishop (Grenada, 1979-1983) and Daniel Ortega Saavedra (Nicaragua, 1985-1990). Raul's succession was long-anticipated. Nonetheless, the new President, Prime clergyman between 1976 and 2008,did not make major changes to the Island's political system.

2009-2010: Under the tutelage of the hereditary dictatorship of the Castro family, there were up to 225 prisoners of conscience. Nonetheless, not much was known about the total whole of political prisoners.

2010: Aware that any Cuban athletes want to leave from the Island, the country's new dictator Raúl Castro, through the Cuban Olympic Committee (Coc), declined to send Olympian athletes, coaches and officials to the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez (Puerto Rico). The Island's sport During the past 20 years has been hit by a host of defections.

The point and point of Having Good Laws and holding Them

On a Nairn Academy filing cabinet a magnet states, "The Ten Commandments are Not a multiple choice".

In every area of life man requires direction and laws - even when driving. They are for his welfare, well-being and safety. Can you dream how our road principles would be even more chaotic if there were no laws and rules?

News From Laos

Some protest that the Commandments are negative and 'it is bad psychology to be too negative'. What absolute nonsense!

Even in sport, when the ball goes over the line, the game must stop - 'no matter how well I view I was playing'.

It is when we live within the limitations, which God has set, that we enjoy liberty.

For society to have a salutary morality it is foremost to define what is wrong as well as what is right. Both are essential.

Another objection is that God's Commandments are 'antiquated' or old fashioned, being 3,000 years old.

Well, as the physician said, "You came into this world in an old fashioned way and you will leave it in an old fashioned way!"

The Commandments help define sin. You can tell if a wall is crooked by hanging a plumbline, or placing a spirit-level against it. The right edge of God's Law reveals how crooked we are, and until a man realises he is crooked he will not want to be straightened.

It has been suggested that they are Old Testament and Jewish.

Jesus Christ was a Jew. The one who died for me on the cross, shedding His blood to wash away my sin, was the King of the Jews. It was He who was raised from the dead three days later and it is He who is advent back to this world to put right what has gone wrong.

Until a man knows he has a disease he will not seek the cure.

Malaysia: An Oriental Tourist's Haven and an Anthropologer's Delight!

Malaysia History:

Wikipedia, the encyclopedia says: "the history of Malaysia is a relatively up-to-date offshoot of the history of the wider Malay-Indonesian world". It is so because anthropologists and historians could see very microscopic aspects culturally and linguistically, to distinguish today's Malaysian territories from the lands of the Malay Archipelago. Agreeing to their research, today's group of the Malay world into six different states-- Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei and East Timor - is largely the succeed of external influences, like the Hindu India, the Islamic Middle East and Christian Europe (west), China and Japan (north-east). Besides, the most direct shipping route passing through the Strait of Malacca, Malaysia has plainly been a melting pot of trade routes and cultures. Thus, it has been found out that the geographical position of Malaysia has categorically made it difficult for the Malay habitancy to resist foreign sway and domination.

News From Laos

If one analyses the history of Malaysia, he can see these successive phases before the final assertion of Malay independence.

o The domination of Hindu culture imported from India reached its peak in the great Srivijaya civilisation in Sumatra (from the 7th to the 14th centuries).

o The arrival of "Islam" in the 10th century, leading to the conversion of the Malay-Indonesian world, having a profound sway on the Malay people. The Srivijayan empire broke up into smaller sultanates, the most leading one being Melaka (Malacca).

o The intrusion of the European colonial powers and European domination: (i) Portuguese, (ii) Dutch and (iii) British, who established bases at Penang and Singapore. This triggered off the most revolutionary event in Malay history - the Anglo-Dutch treaty of 1824, which drew a frontier between British Malaya and the Netherlands East Indies (now Indonesia). Thus, the group of the Malay world was established permanently.

o The British had obvious economic intentions in establishing their empire in the Malay world. In colonizing the Malay world, they had forseen financial profit, banking on the obvious attractions of Malaya, the tin and gold mines. However, soon after, the British planters started exploring the tropical plantation crops including pepper and coffee. On the other hand, there was a mass immigration of Chinese and Indian workers to meet the needs of the colonial economy. To meet the needs of a large and disciplined work-force, plantation workers, in general Tamil-speakers from South India as well as immigrant workers from southern China were imported to the land. Thus, the Malay society suffered the loss of political sovereignty to the British and of economic sovereignty to the Chinese.

However, after the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in the 1930's, Chinese emigration to Malaya stopped significantly, thereby stabilising the demographic situation. In 1957, Malay became an independent nation, with 55% Malay population, and with rich export industries, consisting of rubber, tin, palm oil, and iron ore.

1963 was a needful year for the Malay world, when Malaya became Malaysia with the acquisition of the British territories in North Borneo and Singapore. It was followed by various political onslaughts like confrontation with Indonesia, the race riots of 1969, the establishment of urgency rule and a curtailment of political life and civil liberties forever. However, after the New Economic policy introduced by the government in 1971, the Malaysian economy improved significantly, with the elimination of rural poverty, and with the identification between race and economic function. The political culture of Malaysia, on the other hand, remains increasingly authoritarian till up-to-date times, with a predominant decline of democracy. The interrogate of when and how Malaysia will accumulate a multi-party democracy, a free press, an independent judiciary and the recovery of civil and political liberties remain unanswered, despite its economic maturity which has been quite a phenomenon in the Malaysian history.

Malaysia Economy:

With a small and a relatively open economy, Malaysia is a country on the move. Earlier what had been a country dependent on agriculture and traditional commodities has today grown to be an export-driven nation, flourishing on high technology, knowledge-based and capital-intensive industries.

This drastic structural transformation of Malaysia's economy which has been quite spectacular in these forty years, has been the succeed of pragmatism and a estimate of decisive steps taken by the Malaysian government. Largely depending on its wealth of mineral resources, fertile soils, agriculture and manufacturing, the Malaysian economy achieved midpoint annual increase rates of about 7% while the last decade. And it has been inherent because the government did not rest on its laurels, but took leading steps instrumental to the country's economic progress, like eradicating poverty with a controversial race-conscious schedule called New Economic policy (Nep). First established in 1971, it was designed in particular to enhance the economic standing of ethnic Malays and other indigenous people, collectively known as "bumiputras".

The results of such a revolutionary economic policy introduced by the government clearly shown, as the Gdp doubled to reach an estimated Rm219.4 billion (Us.7 billion) in 2002. On the other hand, the country has shown big potentials in its exports and imports which have roughly quadrupled to reach Rm349.6 billion (Us.0 billion) and Rm298.5 billion (Us.6 billion) respectively. These extremely contributed in placing Malaysia among the world's top 20 trading nations, for which today the country even boasts of being an leading trading partner for the United States. With a manufacturing sector that now accounts for 30.4% of Malaysia's Gdp, Malaysia today is considered one of the world's leading exporters of semiconductor devices, computer hard disk drives, audio and video products, and room air-conditioners.

Rapid industrialization became a boon for the country, after the government opened itself to foreign direct investments (Fdi) in the 1960s. Currently, with its market-oriented economy, combined with an educated workforce and a well-developed infrastructure, Malaysia has been regarded as one of the largest recipients of Fdi among developing countries. Though the Asian Financial urgency in 1997 saw Foreign direct speculation in Malaysia falling at an alarming rate and Ringgit depreciating substantially from Myr 2.50 per Usd to much levels lower (up to Myr 4.80 per Usd at its bottom), the economy rejuvinated shortly afterwards as the country had a strong increase in exports, particularly that of electronics and electrical products to the Unites States. Today, the country enjoys faster economic salvage compared to the neighbouring South-East Asian countries, though it is true that the level of affluence that was before 1997 financial urgency has yet to be achieved.

Malaysia Culture/Religion:

A multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multilingual society, housing 65% Malays, 25% Chinese and 7% Indians, Malaysia is also home to the largest indigenous tribe in terms of numbers, the Iban of Sarawak (over 600,000). As an spirited matter-of-fact, the largest society in Malaysia, the malays, are all Muslims since one has to be Muslim to be legally Malay under Malaysian law. However, there are also Christians and Hindus surrounded by them. Playing a dominant political role, the Muslims surrounded by the Malays are included in a group identified as "bumiputera", speaking the native language "Bahasa Melayu". However, despite "Bahasa Melayu" being the valid language, when members of these different communities talk to each other, they generally speak English, recently reinstated as the language of study in higher education.

The Iban of Sarawak, interestingly, still live in traditional jungle villages in longhouses along the Rajang and Lupar rivers and their tributaries in Malaysia. Along with them, Malaysia also houses quite a large estimate of Orang Asli or aboriginal people, who comprise a estimate of different ethnic communities living in Peninsular Malaysia. Traditionally nomadic hunter-gatherers and agriculturists, many have been sedentarised and partially absorbed into modern Malaysia, though still remaining the poorest group in the country.

Apart from the traditional nomadic tribes, there are the Chinese comprising of about a quarter of the habitancy and also Indians who inventory for about 7% of the population. While the Chinese are mostly Buddhists, Taoists or Christian, and speak a variety of Chinese dialects, the Indians are in general south-indian Hindus, speaking Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam and Hindi. However, english as a first language is used by umpteen middle to upper-middle class Chinese as well as Indians in Malaysia.

The remaining habitancy of Malaysia comprises of a sizeable Sikh community, of Eurasians (of mixed Portuguese and Malay descent as well as mixed Malay and Spanish descent), Cambodians, and Vietnamese. In most cases, the Cambodians and Vietnamese are Buddhists of the Theravada sect and Mahayana sect.

The Chinese forming a sizeable part of the population, Malaysian traditional music is heavily influenced by Chinese forms. Saying that, the Islamic forms also sway the music to a great extent. The music, based largely colse to the gendang (drum), also includes a estimate of spirited percussion instruments, and even flutes and trumpets. Infested with a strong tradition of dance and dance dramas, some of Thai, Indian and Portuguese origin, the malaysian culture also incorporates artistic forms like wayang kulit (shadow puppet theatre), silat (a stylised martial art) and crafts like batik, weaving, silver and brasswork.

In terms of religion, Malaysians commonly tend to personally respect one another's religious beliefs. However, inter-religious problems arise in general from the political sphere. Often non-muslims are said to contact restrictions in activities like construction of religious buildings. All Muslims here are obliged to succeed the decisions of sharia courts, although when it comes to leaving/renouncing the Islam faith, the court of malaysia is said to have denied one the right (such as the Yeshua Jalilludin versus the minister of Home Affairs case in the 1980's).

Malaysia Travel/Tourism:

A glorious haven comprising of island life, adventures, city excitement and oriental culture & heritage, Malaysia has been attracting tourists from all nook and projection of the world as an ideal trip destination for over a decade now. With energetic, spirited dance forms, with a mythical culture that represents fertility, vigilance and dignity, with expound traditional festivals like the bamboo dance and the warrior dance, and with a strong sense of community, Malaysia is truly a land of many cultures, wonders and attractions in the heart of Asia.

A land of spirited extremes, where towering skyscrapers look down upon primitive longhouses, it truly accounts for a memorable eco-holiday. Above all, with some of the best beaches and diving spots in the world, it is ideal for island getaways. It is no wonder then, that with promoting Malaysia as a destination of excellence, the travel/tourism improvement group of Malaysia has been able to increase the estimate of foreign tourists and also extend their midpoint length of stay, thereby addition Malaysia's tourism income considerably over the years.

Island Life highlights in Malaysia consist in general of the Langwaki Island, Kedah, and the Pangkor Laut, Perak. While the local legends, gorgeous beaches and natural marvels make the Langwaki Island especially spirited and unforgettable as a spirited Island getaway, the Pangkor Laut, Perak, is basically a underground island whose shop value has increased dramatically after it was voted as the 'Best Island in the World' by the Uk-based Conde Naste Traveller Magazine. Aficionados of adventure would just love to contemplate Mt. Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia's first World heritage Site and one of Southeast Asia's highest mountains (4,093 metres). Towering amidst a veil of clouds, while the largest cave chamber in the world at Mulu Caves beckons the tourists with its inexplicable mystery, on the other hand, lush tropical jungles teeming with wildlife for millions of years, like the Taman Negara, Pahang, would be tempting one to contact the exhilaration of endless escapades.

Those seeing for city attractions in Malaysia like glamour, shopping, fine dining and more will by all means; of course be able to satisfy their fine tastes and sensibilities. With the ultra-modern Petronas Twin Towers (in the Kuala Lumpur City Centre), the first-rate Moorish-style old Railway station, the luxurious and extravagant shopping malls and restaurants with succulent Chinese and oriental food fests, one cannot fail to revel in the umpteen alluring attractions of Malaysia.

With all these and much more in store, its no wonder that global tourists continue to return to Malaysia time and again to contemplate its mixture of cultures and environments for a fantastic, spirited holiday.

How to Find tour Bargains

If you've ever typed "discount travel" into a Google quest box, you know the frustrations of trying to find a gem among way too many chunks of coal. "Discount travel" and other favorite quest phrases -- "cheap reduction airline travel," "discount trip web site," or "cruise trip discount" -- typically return an infinitely long list of mind-numbing websites that promise exotic trip for pennies on the dollar. And then you look for the details. Underneath a perhaps fascinating home page, many of those trip sites just don't have much substance. So what is a trade shopper to do? Give up, exasperated, after spending hours clicking and searching?

Have faith, trade shopper. You can find trip deals out there; you just have to be strategic in your search. Succeed these tips and maximize your opportunities to trip at a discount:

News From Laos

Subscribe to free newsletters. If you can handle receiving a few extra emails in your box every week, you'll have the opening to save a bundle on your trip plans. Hotels, airlines and cruise ships prefer to book up completely, even if that means they have to shave a exiguous off the price at the last minute. These trip associates often use e-newsletters to let you know when they're ready to offer you a deal. Take a visit to the websites of your favorite airlines, cruise operators and hotel brands and hunt around for an e-newsletter sign-up form. Try a merge of trip agents too, as they sometimes have fire sales on perfect vacations. Just make your selections wisely--it doesn't do you or them any good if you don't read your emails.

Be a frequent buyer. trip associates love loyalty. While you're seeing around for e-newsletters, check into frequent buyer programs too. Affinity cards are popular; these are the prestige cards that earn you miles or points. Once you have that card, the airline or hotel will be pretty good about letting you know how to use it to earn more miles. If you're super-diligent about paying your bills, start using the prestige card for all of your regular expenses.

Shape out who you need to call to check on the dog or pick up your newspaper while you're gone.

Cruise lines will book more than a year in advance, while airlines ordinarily go out about 11 months. Oh, and if you've saved up sufficient frequent flyer miles for free airfare, you have to book that marker a year in advance. Airlines ordinarily limit the whole of freebies they'll offer on each flight, and they book up fast. If you wait too long, you won't get the flight you want.

Be flexible. When you're researching a definite destination, be flexible about your coming days and the length of your stay. Experiment with distinct dates and times; leaving on a Tuesday instead of a Friday for example might make a huge discrepancy in the cost of your airfare and hotel. Depending on the destination and the whole of habitancy in your trip party, a date turn might save you sufficient on airfare to cover the cost of staying a few extra days. Along those same lines, be willing to visit your destinations in the off-season: You know, Palm Springs in the summer, Paris in the winter. You'll save money and avoid the crowds.

Be an outlier. You might be planning a vacation around a definite attraction, like Disneyland. If so, reconsider staying in a neighboring city. The hotels in Anaheim, particularly those within walking length to Disneyland, fee a huge excellent for their location. The same will be true for hotels surrounding approximately any major attraction. Go to Google Maps and get customary with the communities around Anaheim; if you stay 10 miles away, you'll save sufficient to pay for your rental car and then some.

Filipinos Do Speak Spanish

When you travel to the Philippines, it's good to have a basic knowledge of English and Spanish, because even among Filipinos who don't speak Spanish fluently, there are thousands of Spanish loan words in the indigenous Malay languages of the Philippines.

Many population are mistaken in assuming that the Filipino culture is intermixed with influences from the Spanish culture, but that's legitimately a mistake, since the national Filipino culture didn't exist until the Spaniards arrived in the 1500s, and neither did the word Filipino. The Filipino culture is a consequent of the cultural mix of the indigenous Malay cultures, Spanish influences which are positive in the names, the languages, and in the ancestry of the Filipino people, and also a strong Chinese influence.

News From Laos

I always go to forum and message boards and have a good read, and coarse sentences are "If Filipinos spoke Spanish...", "Filipinos don't speak Spanish" "If Filipinos spoke Spanish today..." "Only old Filipinos speak Spanish." "The only kind of Spanish in the Philippines is Chabacano..."

I'm 24 years old. When I was in Manila two years ago, I visited my great aunt, who I was told was becoming senile, so I assumed that she probably wouldn't recognize me since it's been 13 years since she had seen me, but I was amazed that the occasion I arrived, walked up the steps to our old Spanish colonial style home, and entered the sala, she called me by my first name and began telling me about how tall I became and how I look so "mestizo" with my brown hair combined with my facial features. I told my great aunt, "No, you look mestiza!" And she laughed and said, "No, I'm an indio!", the irony being of policy that these words were coming out of my great aunt standing there with her earthenware white skin, remarkable green eyes, sharp pointed nose, and wavy hair that used to be black but is now a beautiful snow white.

Of course, we're just using the word mestizo in Philippine vernacular referring to appearance. Referring to my former articles on our blog about the word mestizo, far be it for me to give a lecture to my great aunt about how the word mestizo is being used in a separate way in the Philippines and is spreading miseducation among Filipinos about our actual racial ancestry as a country, especially when she's the one who speaks perfect Spanish and learned it as her first language. But at the same time, it's also understandable that words change meanings in separate countries, and it's just a natural part of language evolution.

I never understanding that I looked Spanish or Latin, but it seems everyone else I ever met that wasn't a family member or family friend in my whole life always did. But that same thing always happens to my mom and my aunts and uncles, since we don't have features that are typically Malay. My Filipino friends always told me, "You know you don't look Filipino..." a commentary which is intended to praise you, but at the same time, also made makes one feel excluded. And I always understanding it was ironic because I'm not that white looking, there are a lot of Filipinos especially celebrities that have a lot more and stronger European features than I do, compared to the rest of my family, I'm almost an Aeta, hehe. But of course, that's okay, because Aetas are beautiful people.

I remember I worked for Fuji, the Japanese photo business in New York, and I'd speak in my broken Tagalog to our Filipino clients, "Oh! You're Filipino!" And a funny thing is because I was used to speaking with my Spanish speaking clients and they always greeted me with "¿Como esta?" whenever they entered my office, so I was used to saying "Bien!". Well, one day, I was busy doing some work, a woman walked in and she said "¿Como esta?" and I said, "Bien, gracias!", and I looked up from my work, and realized that it was that nice Filipina woman I knew who was our repeat client, so I scrambled and said, "I mean, mabuti!" Hehe. It was when I looked up at her face I realized that she had said "Kumusta?" not "¿Como esta?", since to the discerning ear, the way Filipinos and Latinos say this coarse greeting in our culture is indistinguishable, and it legitimately was for me that day and I'll never forget it, hehe.

So I'm at my great aunt's house, which is legitimately the former house of my grandfather, which she inherited when he died. One time, I visited by myself, and after merienda, she sat me down at the window, and we had a long talk in Spanish, about a lot of things, and I kept thinking to myself, why is everyone saying she's becoming senile when her memory is still there? And in Spanish, I asked her about her life growing up, because I realized that since I hardly visit the Philippines and this is my last connection to my grandparents and to my family history, I have to soak up everything, and I have to find out as much as possible before the positive happens. She would speak to our maids in Tagalog, and speak to me in Tagalog and English also, and I'd reply in my broken Tagalog, but mostly in English since my Tagalog is so broken, hehe. But when I switched to Spanish, she spoke only in Spanish to me, and proceeded to scold me in Spanish, saying that I need to do good in school, and do something good with my life, and work hard, etc. Which became legitimately irritating since she began to say the same things over and over again. And then I asked her about her childhood, and she told me all kinds of stories, still in Spanish since it was her first language, about World War Ii, and how my great uncle died in the war, and all kinds of great things that I scrambled to write in a piece of newspaper so I could save it for later.

The thing I noticed was that she seemed okay but a miniature exasperated when she would conversate with her maids in Tagalog, and it was nice, but when I spoke to her in Spanish, it's like an whole section of her memories just flooded back to her, and her eyes lit up, and I soon realized that it was because a great portion of her whole childhood and youth was lived in the Spanish language, and to have someone awaken that in her now, it was just an amazing thing to feel. It felt like when I looked into her green eyes and she told me all these stories about her childhood and her university life and the war and about my grandparents, I was legitimately stepping back in time to a Manila that no longer exists today, I was stepping back in time to my family's own history, and it was just surreal.

My uncle also visited the house, and we had a short chat in Spanish also. And my aunt, who works in Canada for Ibm,. There are also many Filipinos in this world that are extremely educated and entered the U.S. Or Canada through scholarships, and that proudly includes my mom and my aunts, anyway, she always tells me how this Spanish woman always likes to chat with her during lunch, because my aunt and uncles also grew up with Spanish (not Chabacano) as their first language, before they learned Tagalog or English.

My family is from Manila (and has been for generations ever since our family history has been recorded), not from Zamboanga or Ermita and legitimately not from Cavite, although those are beautiful places, and and we have family members that speak Spanish, not Chabacano. There are Spanish speakers that are Filipinos that are not from those two provinces, but the miseducation about this topic seems to be deep among Filipinos.

But Chabacano is a beautiful creole language, and I love hearing it being spoken since it's extremely easy to understand, at least for me, since it's a mix of Tagalog and other local dialects with Spanish, and I understand Spanish and Tagalog fluently, so put it all together, it's Chabacano, and I love it, I love hearing it.

It is legitimately true that Spanish is no longer widely spoken in the Philippines, and one step out of the airplane, it doesn't take long for anyone to realize that, however, the Philippines does have it's own unique version and accent of Spanish that is not Chabacano, it's proper Spanish meaning that it's not a creole, but it's a Spanish that has it's own influences from Tagalog, together with dental stops between vowels that are influenced from the Malay languages. However, the only population that seem to be researching this very leading and endangered part of our patrimony are not Filipinos, but are American university scholars, and while Filipinos speaking Spanish today might seem like a grand myth to many young Filipinos, especially those overseas many of whom seem to be wholly clueless about it among other things linked to Filipino culture, it is in fact real. And it's real in my own family.

So, the point is, always take everything you read on Filipino forums and message boards with a grain of salt, because all the statements above that I've read before, and I've heard repeated over and over before, I legitimately know for a fact aren't true inspecting that I am living proof of it, and so is my family, and I sense it and see it with my own eyes, and I live it everyday.

And don't forget about the Filipinos celebrities in the social eye who do speak Spanish: Pilita Corrales, Junior, Isabel Preysler, Enrique Iglesias, Julio Iglesias Jr., Shaila Durcal, Tamara Falco, Ana Boyer, Chabeli Iglesias, Carmen Morales, German Moreno, Jaime Fabregas, and many many more.
